Welcome to our website!
We hope that by browsing the following pages you’ll find out about the life of our school, its mission and aims and see some of the exciting events that we provide each term for our pupils. We believe that the website gives only a flavour of what we do and so we actively encourage visits from prospective parents so you can see for yourself what a happy and successful school we are.
Charlton Horethorne is a very small rural school at the heart of the local community. We have three classes; Ladybirds YR,Y1 and Y2, Bees Y3/4 and Dragonflies Y5/6. Ladybirds Class is supported by two Teaching Assistants and Bees class by one. In addition we have specialist Music and PE teachers who visit on a weekly basis.
In our school we believe that every child is special and all of our pupils valued and nurtured by our hardworking, caring and dedicated staff.
We believe that children learn best when they are happy and stimulated to learn. The school prides itself on supporting all its children in the classroom and on providing opportunities for children to take part in the maximum number of out of school activities. We run football and netball clubs and participate in local sports competitions. In addition the children have opportunities join our music, craft and environment clubs after school. We undertake a number of visits during the school year including a residential visit in year 5/6 to Kilve activity centre where children can undertake a series of adventurous activities and have great fun!
Everything we do is also underpinned by our Christian foundation, which makes us a very caring, supportive place. We have a well-earned reputation for being a “family” school where every child is treated with respect and encouraged to value themselves and those they work with. All this makes us a unique school and many parents whose children have been to Charlton Horethorne Church of England School agree.
We hope you enjoy viewing our website. We try to ensure that it is regularly updated with examples of the pupils’ work.

Currently school plans to open later tomorrow from 10am. However please check Somerset Learning Platform https://slp.somerset.org.uk before leaving home for latest update in case conditions deteriorate overnight and staff are unable to make it to school safely. The front entrance to school only will be in use. The car park and playground will be out of bounds. Thank you.
